We have discovered a great deal of misguided information on the internet regarding the history of water filters ... the Doulton line is the ORIGINAL water filter company formed in England in the mid 1800's by John Doulton who made and marketed the original Doulton filter ... ALL of the other water filter companies have attempted to copy the container and water filter elements ... these newer offshoot companies started later in the 1900s with some as recent as 1998 ... the Doulton filters have been made in the same manner for 150 years and used world wide ... the filter elements are tested under strict guidelines to show that 1) they are effective in removing pathogens and chemicals to the specified levels and 2) they do not add (leach) unwanted materials into the water from the filter element itself ... i have chosen the oldest and most stable company to become a dealer to protect my customers ... jim mccanney

**** NOTE ... as we all sit and watch the world coming apart at the seams ... all you can do at this point is prepare yourselves with solid real information and become your own source of food and fresh water ... as you know i have been encouraging anyone who purchased water filters from me or elsewhere in the past with the "black filter absorbers" to obtain at least one set of Doulton white 7" ceramic filter elements (they are a true filter element and are a one for one replacement and work in your same water canister) ... we discovered in field tests during the Iowa flooding this past spring that the black filter "absorbers" clogged in real field tests and could not be cleaned or reused ... i left that behind as i moved to the Doulton canisters with Doulton ceramic 7" filters on May 22, 2008 and there were many other problems at that time so i recommend that no one purchase the black filter absorbers after that date ... also in general do not use any 9" or 10" filter elements as they do not work properly in a standard sized water filter as they lack "head pressure" and are very slow to filter water (incorrect marketing ploys state larger flow rates for 9" and 10" filter elements BUT to obtain these you would have to stand there and continually fill the canister  with water to keep above the top of these filter elements\ ... if you did that then the bottom canister would overflow (read the fine print) ... that is why i only sell the 7" white three part Doulton ceramic filter elements which we personally field tested under the most severe flooding conditions and cleaned and reused the Doulton ceramic filters hundreds of times ... for those who have not procured a gravity feed water filter yet ... my personal recommendation is that you get one of the Doulton water filters for your home for everyday use in your kitchen for drinking and cooking ... you can take the same unit as i do for travel, camping and it will be there in case of emergency ... there are no hoses or complex hookups or pumps or electrical connections ... just pour the water into the top container and collect it in the bottom container ... regarding those who have been thinking about getting a portable emergency water filter system to provide your own source of fresh water  ... i personally would not wait ... after working in all the places i have been and watching the world come apart at the seams ... there may be a day soon when you just will no longer be able to get many items ... and a portable water filter should be at the very top of your list ... immediate shipment on all orders  ... jim mccanney
